How does Briviact work?
Briviact is an antiepileptic (anti-seizure) medication. It’s not entirely clear how this medication works, but it helps calm certain nerves that are linked to seizures.
How do I take Briviact?
Briviact is dosed as follows:
- Adults (age 16 years and older): The typical starting dose is 50 mg by mouth twice daily. The maximum dose is 100 mg twice daily
- Children weighing less than 50 kg (110 lbs): Your child’s provider will determine your child’s dose based on their body weight. The recommended dose is taken by mouth twice daily
- Your dose might differ if you have liver problems
- Briviact is also available as an injection that’s usually given by a healthcare provider

Briviact Serious Side Effects

- Severe mood changes
- Thoughts of hurting yourself or suicide
- Severe allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, mouth, or throat
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Briviact
The following medications may interact with Briviact:
- Rifampin: Because of decreased concentrations, increasing Briviact dosage in patients on concomitant rifampin is recommended
- Carbamazepine: Because of increased exposure to carbamazepine metabolite, if tolerability issues arise, consider reducing carbamazepine dosage in patients on concomitant Briviact
- Phenytoin: Because phenytoin concentrations can increase, phenytoin levels should be monitored in patients on concomitant Briviact
- Levetiracetam: Briviact had no added therapeutic benefit when coadministered with levetiracetam

Is Briviact safe in pregnancy?
It is not known if Briviact will harm your unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you become pregnant while taking Briviact. You and your healthcare provider will
have to decide if you should take Briviact while you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking Briviact,
talk to your healthcare provider about registering with the North American Antiepileptic Drug Pregnancy Registry. You
can enroll in this registry by calling 1-888-233-2334. The purpose of this registry is to collect information about the
safety of Briviact and other antiepileptic medicines during pregnancy.
