How do I take brivaracetam?
brivaracetam is dosed as follows:
- Adults (age 16 years and older): The typical starting dose is 50 mg by mouth twice daily. The maximum dose is 100 mg twice daily
- Children weighing less than 50 kg (110 lbs): Your child’s provider will determine your child’s dose based on their body weight. The recommended dose is taken by mouth twice daily
- Your dose might differ if you have liver problems
- brivaracetam is also available as an injection that’s usually given by a healthcare provider

- Carbamazepine: Because of increased exposure to carbamazepine metabolite, if tolerability issues arise, consider reducing carbamazepine dosage in patients on concomitant brivaracetam
- Phenytoin: Because phenytoin concentrations can increase, phenytoin levels should be monitored in patients on concomitant brivaracetam
- Levetiracetam: brivaracetam had no added therapeutic benefit when coadministered with levetiracetam
