Artane is an anticholinergic medication. It works by blocking acetylcholine, a chemical that affects different functions in the body, including movement. In doing so, trihexyphenidyl relaxes your muscles to prevent muscle spasms and tremors.
How do I take Artane?
Artane is typically started at a low dose and gradually increased. The usual dose is 5 mg to 15 mg by mouth per day. The dose can be split up into 3 doses and taken with meals.

Artane is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. - Concurent use of alcohol or other CNS depressants – May cause increased sedative effects
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors and trcyclic antidepressants – May intensify the anticholinergic effects
