How does Xiidra work?
Xiidra is a lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist. LFA-1 is a protein that interacts with certain molecules in the eye. This interaction normally causes an immune response that leads to inflammation (redness, swelling, irritation) and dry eye. It’s not exactly clear how the medication works to relieve dry eye, but it’s thought that Xiidra blocks LFA-1 from interacting with these molecules. This helps lower inflammation and other symptoms of dry eye.
