VOLTAREN is the brand name for diclofenac potassium and is available as an enteric-coated oral tablet and topical gel.
What dosages is VOLTAREN available in?
VOLTAREN is available as a 75 mg enteric-coated oral tablet and 1% topical gel.
What is VOLTAREN used for?
VOLTAREN is an NSAID used for mild to moderate pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis of the spine), migraine attacks, and menstrual cramps.
How does VOLTAREN work?
VOLTAREN is an NSAID. It works by blocking certain proteins in your body that cause pain and swelling.
How do I take VOLTAREN?
VOLTAREN tablets are typically taken by mouth up to 4 times a day. Voltaren gel is given as 2 g to 4 g to the affected area 4 times daily depending on the area being treated.
Is it safe for me to take VOLTAREN?
VOLTAREN is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to diclofenac, aspirin, or other NSAIDs or if you have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. It should also not be used for the treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Common side effects of VOLTAREN include:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Ringing in the ear
- Swelling in the arms and legs
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Heartburn
- Stomach bleeds, ulcers, and damage
- Passing gas
- Stomach pains
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Rash
- Dry and itchy skin
- Anemia
- Bleeding that’s hard to stop
VOLTAREN Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with VOLTAREN. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Heart attack: dizziness, tiredness, cold sweat, trouble breathing, chest pain or tightness, anxiety
- Stroke: tiredness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, difficulty speaking, difficulty walking, weakness on one side of the body
- Stomach bleeds: blood in your vomit, stool that looks like black coffee grounds, pain in your stomach that doesn’t go away
- Heart failure: trouble breathing, tiredness, swelling in your body, sudden weight gain
- Liver damage: fever, chills, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, clay-colored stool, dark urine
- Kidney damage and high potassium: nausea, muscle weakness, tingling sensations in your muscles, changes in how much you urinate
- Severe asthma attack: chest pain, cough, difficulty breathing, wheezing
- Serious allergic or skin reaction: fever, rash, body aches, cough, swelling of the face, peeling skin, painful blisters all over your body
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on VOLTAREN
The following medications may interact with VOLTAREN:
- Concomitant administration of VOLTAREN and aspirin is not generally recommended because of the potential of increased adverse effects including
- increased GI bleeding. Concomitant use of anticoagulants and VOLTAREN have a risk of serious GI bleeding higher than users of either drug alone

VOLTAREN should avoided in late pregancy as it may cause harm to your unborn baby. If you become pregnant while receiving VOLTAREN, talk to your healthcare provider.
