It blocks a hormone called angiotensin II that raises blood pressure by tightening your blood vessels and causing your body to hold on to more fluid. valsartan/HCTZ helps relax your blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It works in your kidneys to remove extra water and certain electrolytes (like sodium and potassium), which helps lower your blood pressure. As a result, it makes you urinate more.

  • Corticosteroids, Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone (ACTH) – Hypokalemia, electrolyte depletion
  • Lithium – Reduced renal clearance and high risk of lithium toxicity when used with diuretics. Should not be given with diuretics
  • Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) – Can reduce diuretic, natriuretic and antihypertensive effects of diuretics. Observe patient closely
