Trulance is a GC-C agonist and is used for the following:
Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C, repeated stomach pain with a change in bowel movements) Chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC, long-term constipation with an unknown cause)

Trulance is a guanylate cyclase-C (GC-C) agonist. GC-C is a protein that works in the intestines. Trulance activates GC-C, which helps raise the amount of fluid in your intestines and speed up the movement of food through your gut. These actions soften stool, relieve belly pain, and help you have regular bowel movements.

The typical dose is 3 mg by mouth once a day.

Trulance is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
Patients less than 6 years of age due to the risk of serious dehydration. Patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction.

Common side effects of Trulance:

• Diarrhea

Serious side effects are rare with Trulance. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

• Severe diarrhea
• Bloody stools or black stools that look like tar
• Dehydration: confusion, dizziness, fainting, racing heart

There are no major drug interactions listed for Trulance. However, always let your physician and pharmacist know about any other medications or supplements (including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and dietary or herbal supplements) that you are currently taking.
