It blocks a hormone called angiotensin II that tightens blood vessels and causes your body to hold on to more fluid. Both of these actions can raise your blood pressure. Telmisartan helps to relax your blood vessels, which causes your blood pressure to go down. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that makes you urinate more. It works in your kidneys to remove extra water and certain electrolytes (like sodium and potassium), which helps lower your blood pressure.

Telmisartan/HCTZ is typically dosed in ranges from 80 mg/12.5 mg (telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide) to 160 mg/25 mg (telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide) by mouth once daily.
