How does TAMBOCOR work?
TAMBOCOR is an antiarrhythmic. It works by blocking sodium channels, which play a major part in your heart’s electrical activity. When your heart is firing too quickly in an abnormal rhythm (arrhythmia), flecainide slows down the electricity to help your rhythm return to normal.
How do I take TAMBOCOR?
The typical adult starting dose is 50 mg to 100 mg by mouth twice a day, and the maximum recommended daily dose is 300 mg to 400 mg per day depending on the reason for use.
Children have specialized dosing based on height and weight. Your child’s heart specialist will decide the appropriate dose.
Is it safe for me to take TAMBOCOR?
TAMBOCOR is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have pre-existing second- or third-degree AV block, or with right bundle branch block when associated with a left hemiblock (bifascicular block), unless a pacemaker is present to sustain the cardiac rhythm should complete heart block occur. TAMBOCOR is also contraindicated in the presence of cardiogenic shock or known hypersensitivity to the drug.

Common side effects of TAMBOCOR:

TAMBOCOR Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with TAMBOCOR. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- New or worsened irregular heart rhythm, which can be too fast or too slow. Common symptoms include sudden chest pain or discomfort, palpitations or irregular pulse, dizziness or weakness, or unexplained fainting.

Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on TAMBOCOR
The following medications may interact with TAMBOCOR:
- When amiodarone is added to TAMBOCOR therapy, plasma flecainide levels may increase two-fold or more in some patients, if flecainide dosage is not reduced
- Drugs that inhibit cytochrome P450IID6, such as quinidine, might increase the plasma concentrations of TAMBOCOR in patients that are on chronic flecainide therapy; especially if these patients are extensive metabolizers
