Sutab is the brand name for sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, and potassium chloride and is available as an oral tablet.

What dosages is Sutab available in?

Sutab is available as an oral tablet that contains 1.479 g sodium sulfate, 0.225 g magnesium sulfate, and 0.188 g potassium chloride.

What is Sutab used for?

Sutab is a bowel prep medication used to clean out your bowel before a colonoscopy.

How does Sutab work?

Sutab is an osmotic laxative. It’s used to clean out your colon in preparation for a colonoscopy. Sutab works by pulling water into your colon, which softens the stool and makes it easier to pass.

How do I take Sutab?

Sutab consists of 2 doses. You take the first dose the night before your procedure, and the second dose the morning of your procedure. Make sure to follow the colonoscopy prep instructions closely.

Is it safe for me to take Sutab?

Sutab is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

  • Gastrointestinal obstruction or ileus
  • Bowel perforation
  • Toxic colitis or toxic megacolon
  • Gastric retention
  • Hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the product

Sutab Serious Side Effects

Serious side effects are rare with Sutab. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

  • Electrolyte imbalance: vomiting, stomach cramps, dizziness, urinating less than normal, fast heart rate, fast breathing, headache, fainting, or lack of energy
  • Kidney problems: dry mouth, extreme thirst, weakness, low energy, drowsiness, muscle pain or cramps, fast heart beat, nausea, vomiting, not making urine
  • Colon damage: severe stomach pain, rectal bleeding
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Seizures
