Oseni is the brand name for alogliptin and pioglitazone and is available as an oral tablet.

Oseni is available as an oral tablet in one of the following:

• 25 mg alogliptin and 15 mg pioglitazone
• 25 mg alogliptin and 30 mg pioglitazone
• 25 mg alogliptin and 45 mg pioglitazone
• 12.5 mg alogliptin and 15 mg pioglitazone
• 12.5 mg alogliptin and 30 mg pioglitazone
• 12.5 mg alogliptin and 45 mg pioglitazone

Oseni is a DDP-4 inhibitor / thiazolidinedione and is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults.

Oseni is a combination of two medications: Pioglitazone is thiazolidinedione. It works on the fat and muscle cells to help them become more sensitive to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that controls your blood sugar. When your body is able to better use insulin, it can help move more blood sugar into cells to be used for energy. Pioglitazone also works on the liver cells to lower the amount of sugar your liver produces. Alogliptin is dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by blocking DPP-4, an enzyme (protein) that breaks down certain hormones in your body. These hormones tell your body to make more insulin and to produce less sugar. When these hormones are low, your body ends up with low levels of insulin and high levels of blood sugar. Alogliptin blocks DPP-4, which can help produce more insulin to lower blood sugar levels.

TIhe typical starting dose for OSEN is 25 mg/15 mg (alogliptin / pioglitazone) by mouth once daily. The maximum dose is 25 mg/45 mg (alogliptin / pioglitazone) once daily. Your dose might differ if you’ve kidney problems.

Oseni is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you havez: Serious hypersensitivity reaction to alogliptin or pioglitazone, components of Oseni, or any of the excipients. Established NYHA Class III or IV heart failure.

Common side effects of Oseni:

• Sore throat, stuffy nose, and other common cold symptoms
• Cough, runny nose, and other symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection
• Back pain

Serious side effects are rare with Oseni. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

• Worsening heart failure: shortness of breath, unusual swelling, tiredness, and sudden weight gain
• Serious liver problems: feeling tired or weak, poor appetite, losing weight without trying, dark urine, eyes and skin turning more yellow, upper right stomach pain
• Inflamed pancreas: upper stomach pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting
• Severe skin or allergic reactions: rash, blisters, sores, trouble breathing, swelling

The following medications may interact with Oseni:

• Strong CYP2C8 inhibitors (e.g., gemfibrozil) increase pioglitazone
• concentrations. Limit the pioglitazone dose to 15 mg daily.
• CYP2C8 inducers (e.g., rifampin) may decrease pioglitazone concentrations
• Topiramate may decrease pioglitazone concentrations
