How does OMNICEF work?
OMNICEF is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills bacteria by preventing them from making an additional covering around themselves for protection.
How do I take OMNICEF?
OMNICEF is typically taken as 300 mg by mouth every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days. For certain infections (sinus infections, strep throat, tonsil infections, and infections related to bronchitis), you might be able to take 600 mg once per day for 10 days. The dose of your childe is based on their body weight and then taken for 5 to 10 days.

OMNICEF is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics.

Common side effects of OMNICEF:
- Diarrhea
- Nausea

- Rash
- Yeast infection in women
OMNICEF Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with OMNICEF. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Serious allergic reactions: hives, rash, blisters, swelling of the lips or tongue, difficulty breathing
- Infectious (C. difficile-related) diarrhea: foul-smelling diarrhea, fever, nausea, frequent bowel movements (up to 15 times per day)
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on OMNICEF
The following medications may interact with OMNICEF:
- Antacids (aluminum- or magnesium-containing) and iron: May reduce the levels and effects of OMNICEF. If antacids are required during OMNICEF therapy, OMNICEF should be taken at least 2 hours before or after the antacid
- Probenecid: As with other b-lactam antibiotics, probenecid inhibits the renal excretion of OMNICEF, which can increase its levels and effects
