What is NULOJIX used for?
NULOJIX is an immunosuppressant that is used for the prevention of kidney transplant rejection in adults.
How does NULOJIX work?
NULOJIX s a type of immunosuppressant called a selective T-cell costimulation blocker. It attaches to two spots on the surface of immune cells in your body. These immune cells normally activate (wake up) T-cells. By binding to these spots, it can stop T-cells from multiplying and causing rejection of your transplanted organ.
How do I take NULOJIX?
NULOJIX is only available as an intravenous (IV) infusion through your vein that’s administered by a healthcare provider. The dose depends on your body weight and how much time has passed since your transplant. In general, you’ll follow a dosing schedule your transplant provider sets for you, and then eventually, you’ll only receive one dose per month.
Is it safe for me to take NULOJIX?
NULOJIX is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you are EBV seronegative or with unknown EBV serostatus.
NULOJIX Common Side Effects
Common side effects of NULOJIX:
- Anemia
- Changes in stool habits
- Urinary tract infection
- Swelling in your arms and legs
- Changes in blood pressure
- Fever
- Cough
- Vomiting

NULOJIX Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with NULOJIX. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD): changes in mood or usual behavior, confusion, weakness, problems thinking, memory loss, changes in walking or talking, changes in vision
- Infection: fever, chills, muscle aches, change in appetite, weight loss, vomiting, skin rash
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on NULOJIX
The following medications may interact with NULOJIX:
- Monitor for a need to adjust concomitant mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) dosage whenna patient’s therapy is switched between cyclosporine and NULOJIX
- Coadministration (at the same or nearly the same time) of anti-thymocyte globulin(or any other cell-depleting induction treatment) and NULOJIX in kidney transplant recipients, especially those with other predisposing risk factors for venous thrombosis of the renal allograft, may pose a risk for venous thrombosis of the renal
- allograft

Is NULOJIX safe in pregnancy?
It is not known if NULOJIX will harm your unborn baby. If you become pregnant while taking NULOJIX: Tell your doctor right away. You and your doctor should decide if you will keep receiving NULOJIX while you are pregnant. Talk with your doctor about enrolling in the National Transplant Pregnancy Registry (NTPR). This Registry collects information about pregnancies in women who have received NULOJIX or if their partner has received NULOJIX, and had a transplant. You can also enroll by calling 1-877-955-6877.
