What is NASONEX used for?
NASONEX is a corticosteroid and is used to treat temporary relief of allergy symptoms (e.g., stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose) (OTC only), prevention of seasonal allergies (prescription only), and treatment of long-term nose and sinus inflammation with nasal polyps (prescription only).
How does NASONEX work?
NASONEX is a corticosteroid that works directly in your nose to lower chemicals that cause swelling and inflammation.
How do I take NASONEX?
NASONEX is given with a typical dose of 2 sprays in each nostril once daily starting 2-4 weeks before pollen season.
Is it safe for me to take NASONEX?
NASONEX is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you.
NASONEX Common Side Effects
Common side effects of NASONEX include:

- Viral infection
- Sore throat
- Bloody nose or mucus
- Coughing
- Upper respiratory tract infection
- Period cramps
- Muscle pain
- Congestion, pressure near the nose or forehead, and other symptoms of sinus infection
NASONEX Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with NASONEX. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Severe allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on NASONEX
- No drug-drug interaction studies have been conducted with NASONEX. However, you should always let your physician and pharmacist know about any other medications or supplements (including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and dietary or herbal supplements) that you are currently taking
Is NASONEX safe in pregnancy?
NASONEX is minimally absorbed systemically following nasal use, and maternal use is not expected to result in fetal exposure to the drug. Animal studies, however, suggest that excessive use of steroids can cause harm to unborn babies. You should talk to your healthcare provider before taking this medication if you are pregnant.
