What is LIPITOR?
LIPITOR is the brand name for atoravastatin and is available as an oral tablet.
What dosages is LIPITOR available in?
LIPITOR is available as a 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg oral tablet.
What is LIPITOR used for?
LIPITOR is a statin that is used in the prevention of heart or blood vessel problems (e.g., heart attack or stroke) in high-risk adults (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure, family history of cholesterol problems) and the treatment of high “bad” cholesterol and triglyceride levels in certain people.
How does LIPITOR work?
LIPITOR is a statin. The main way it works is by blocking the enzyme (protein) in your liver that makes cholesterol. As a result, LIPITOR lowers your “bad” cholesterol (called low-density lipoprotein, or LDL). LIPITOR can also raise your “good” cholesterol (called high-density lipoprotein, or HDL) levels and lower your triglyceride levels.
How do I take LIPITOR?
LIPITOR is typically started at dose ranges from 10 mg to 20 mg by mouth once daily. The typical maintenance dose ranges between 10 mg to 80 mg once dailly.
Is it safe for me to take LIPITOR?
LIPITOR is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have acute liver failure or decompensated cirrhosis or hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any excipient in LIPITOR.
