Lazanda is available as a nasal spray. Each spray delivers 100 mcL of solution containing either 100 mcg or 400 mcg fentanyl base.

Lazanda is an opioid pain medication. It works directly on opioid receptors in your brain to relieve pain.

The typical starting dose of Lazanda is one spray (100 mcg) in one nostril for one episode of breakthrough pain. It can be titrated up to a maximum of 800 mcg. You should not use no more than four doses per 24 hours.

Lazanda is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

• Not tolerant to opioids
• Short-term pain, such as headache or migraine, dental pain, or pain after surgery
• Slowed breathing (respiratory depression)
• Stomach or intestinal blockage (paralytic ileus)

Common side effects of Lazanda:

• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Fever

Serious side effects are rare with Lazanda. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

• Overdose: not responding to sound or touch, slowed breathing, sleepiness, muscle weakness, small pupils, cold or clammy skin, abnormal snoring, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, unresponsiveness, coma
• Life-threatening slowed breathing (respiratory depression) and death, even at normal doses: your risk is highest during the first 24 to 72 hours of starting Lazanda and after your dose is increased
• Serious allergic reaction: hives, shortness of breath, chest tightness, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or eyes
• Slowed breathing
• Adrenal insufficiency (low cortisol levels): nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, low appetite, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, low blood pressure
• Withdrawal: restlessness, runny nose, yawning, sweating, chills, widened pupils, irritability, anxiety, suicidal thoughts

The following medications may interact with Lazanda:

• CYP3A4 inhibitors
• Other sedating medications or those that causes respiratory depression
• MAOIs

Chronic use during pregnancy has been associated with respiratory depression, behavioral changes, or seizures in newborn infants.
