Izervay is used to treat adults with geographic atrophy (GA), an advanced form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
How does Izervay work?
Izervay is a complement inhibitor that blocks complement protein C5. C5 is a protein in your immune system that plays a role in GA (inflammation and cell death in the retina and eventual vision loss). Blocking it reduces inflammation and helps protect your retina from further damage and possibly lowers your risk of vision loss.
How do I take Izervay?
The recommended dose for Izervay is 2 mg (0.1 mL of 20 mg/mL solution) injected into each affected eye once monthly.
Is it safe for me to take Izervay?
Izervay is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
- Current infection in or around the eye
- Current eye inflammation

Common side effects of Izervay:
- Blood spots on the whites of eye or eye redness
- Increased eye pressure
- Blurry vision
Izervay Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Izervay. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Eye infection: eye pain, sensitivity to light, loss of vision, eye redness
- Retinal detachment: flashing lights, feeling like something is covering your vision, changes in your vision, vision loss, seeing floaters
- Signs of wet AMD: straight lines looking wavy, blurry vision, blank spots in your vision
