Inderal is a beta blocker and is used to treat high blood pressure, chronic chest pain, migraine, hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, atrial fibrillation (A.Fib), heart protection after a heart attack, tremors, and pheochromocytoma (a rare tumor of the adrenal gland).
How does Inderal work?
Inderal is a non-selective beta blocker. This type of medication slows down your heart rate and relaxes blood vessels to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and chest pain.
How do I take Inderal?
Inderal is typically dosed in ranges of 30 mg to 320 mg by mouth total daily, split and taken in smaller doses 2 to 4 times daily.
Is it safe for me to take Inderal?
Inderal is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have cardiogenic shock, sinus bradycardia and greater than first-degree block, bronchial asthma, and in patients with known hypersensitivity to propranolol hydrochloride.

Common side effects of Inderal include:
- Dizziness

- Feeling weak
Inderal Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Inderal. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Hert failure: trouble breathing, fast weight gain, feeling very tired, chest pain, swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet
- Bronchospasm: tightness in the chest, trouble catching your breath, difficulty breathing, wheezing, cough, dizziness, extreme tiredness
- Allergic reaction: hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of the lips, throat, or face
- Severe skin reactions: rash, blistering or peeling skin, skin pain, fever
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Inderal
The following medications may interact with Inderal:
Substrates or Inhibitors of CYP2D6: Blood levels and/or toxicity of Inderal may be increased by co-administration with substrates or inhibitors of CYP2D6, such as amiodarone, cimetidine, delavudin, fluoxetine, paroxetine, quinidine, and ritonavir.
Substrates or Inhibitors of CYP1A2: Blood levels and/or toxicity of Inderal may be increased by co-administration with substrates or inhibitors of CYP1A2, such as imipramine, cimetidine, ciprofloxacin, fluvoxamine, isoniazid, ritonavir, theophylline, zileuton, zolmitriptan, and rizatriptan.
Substrates or Inhibitors of CYP2C19: Blood levels and/or toxicity of Inderal may be increased by co-administration with substrates or inhibitors of CYP2C19, such as fluconazole, cimetidine, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, tenioposide, and tolbutamide. No interaction was observed with omeprazole.
Inducers of Hepatic Drug Metabolism: Blood levels of Inderal may be decreased by co-administration with inducers such as
- rifampin, ethanol, phenytoin, and phenobarbital.
