How do I take Geodon?
Geodon is typically dosed as 20 mg to 40 mg by mouth twice a day with food. If needed, your provider might raise the dose every few days. The maximum recommended dose is 40 mg to 80 mg twice daily, depending on the condition being treated.
Is it safe for me to take Geodon?
Geodon is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a known history of QT prolongationl, a recent acute myocardial infarction, uncompensated heart failure, are taking other drugs that have demonstrated QT prolongation, or have a known hypersensitivity to ziprasidone.

Geodon Serious Side Effects

- Suicidal thoughts and behavior
- Seizures
- Difficulty swallowing
- Uncontrolled muscle movements (tardive dyskinesia): sticking out your tongue, puffing out your cheeks, puckering your mouth, lip smacking, chewing, and shaking in your arms and legs
- Neuroleptic malignant syndrome: fever, sweating, stiff muscles, confusion, not aware of your surroundings, fast or irregular heartbeat
- Stroke: numbness or weakness typically on one side of the body, loss of balance, headache, blurred vision, difficulty speaking
- Dangerously high blood sugar: frequently thirsty, needing to urinate often, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, having fruity breath, having dry mouth
- Serious infections: fever, headache, chills, body aches, cough, weakness
- Serious skin reactions: fever, body ache, chills, rash, blistering or peeling skin
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Geodon
- Geodon should not be used in combination with other drugs that have demonstrated QT prolongation. The absorption of Geodon is increased up to two-fold in the presence of food. The full prescribing information contains additional drug interactions
