What is Filgrastim-Ayow used for?

Filgrastim-Ayow is used to help raise white blood cell (WBC) count during chemotherapy treatment.

How does Filgrastim-Ayow work?

Filgrastim-Ayow works by mimicking a naturally occurring human protein to stimulate the bone marrow to produce more white blood cells, specifically neutrophils. This action helps the body fight infection and is used primarily to treat or prevent neutropenia (a low count of neutrophils).

How do I take Filgrastim-Ayow?

Filgrastim-Ayow is usually started at least 24 hours after chemotherapy. The recommended starting dose in adult patients is 5 to 10 mcg/kg/day.

Is it safe for me to take Filgrastim-Ayow?

Filgrastim-Ayow is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
