Elidel is the brand name for pimecrolimus and is available as a topical cream.

Elidel is available as a 1% topical cream.

Elidel is an immunosuppressant and is used to treat eczema (mild to moderate) in adults and children 2 years of age and older.

Elidel is a topical (used on the skin) calcineurin inhibitor. It works by blocking calcineurin, a protein in our bodies that helps activate our immune system. By blocking our immune system response, the inflammation that causes eczema is lessened.

Apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) twice daily.

Elidel is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you.

Common side effects of Elidel:

• Burning
• Headache
• Cough and/or stuffy or runny nose
• Flu or other viral infection
• Fever

Serious side effects are rare with Elidel. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

• Allergic reaction
• Skin infection

The following medications may interact with Elidel:

• The concomitant administration of known CYP3A family of inhibitors in patients with widespread and/or erythrodermic disease should be done with caution. Some examples of such drugs are erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole, calcium channel blockers and cimetidine

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies with Elidel in pregnant women. Therefore, Elidel should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
