Dificid belongs to a group of antibiotics called macrolide antibiotics. It treats your infection by targeting C. difficile bacteria and stopping them from producing important nutrients they need to survive.
How do I take Dificid?
Dificid is typically dosed as follows:
- Adults: Take 200 mg (1 tablet) by mouth two times a day for 10 days.
- Children over 6 months old (dose based on weight):
- Children weighing more than 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs): Give 200 mg (5 mL) by mouth two times a day for 10 days.
- Children weighing between 9 kg and 12.5 kg (20-27.5 lbs): Give 160 mg (4 mL) by mouth two times a day for 10 days
- Children weighing between 7 kg and 9 kg (15-20 lbs): Give 120 mg (3 mL) by mouth two times a day for 10 days
- Children weighing between 4 kg and 7 kg (9-15 lbs): Give 80 mg (2 mL) by mouth two times a day for 10 days
