The formula for active immunization against COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 has been approved for individuals aged 12 and above for the 2023-2024 period. However, it should be noted that COMIRNATY may not provide complete protection for all vaccine recipients.

After receiving official FDA approval, the company gained the green light to commence marketing the vaccine under the official name Comirnaty. The term, pronounced koe-mir’na-tee, was specifically crafted to encompass elements of Covid-19, community, immunity, and mRNA, the vaccine’s underlying technology, as reported by Insider’s Dr.

COMIRNATY is an mRNA vaccine that contains the active ingredient tozinameran. It is administered to individuals aged 5 and above to prevent COVID-19, which is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The Novavax COVID vaccine has been approved for individuals aged 12 and above. Unlike the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, the Novavax vaccine is protein-based. This provides an alternative for those who are unable or prefer not to receive an mRNA vaccine.

COMIRNATY® (COVID-19 vaccine, mRNA) is a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer for BioNTech. It has received FDA approval and is also authorized for emergency use under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). It can be administered to individuals aged 12 to 15 years to prevent COVID-19.

According to our study of 6,423 healthcare workers in Treviso Province, Italy, we found that the effectiveness of the vaccine in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection was estimated to be 84% (95% CI: 40-96) within 14-21 days from the first dose and at least 7 days from the second dose. Additionally, the effectiveness was estimated to be 95% (95% CI: 62-99).

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, which is a monovalent version, and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent, are produced using the same manufacturing process. However, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine specifically contains the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant lineage XBB.

The vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech for COVID-19, also referred to as BNT162b2.

The CDC recommends that both adults and kids ages 6 months and older can choose to get either an updated Pfizer or Moderna vaccine as a booster. The CDC does not have a preference for one over the other.

Prevnar 20 is an immunization that utilizes conjugate technology. This type of vaccine combines proteins with fragments of non-active pneumococcal bacteria to stimulate the immune system. By doing so, your body can identify the bacteria without causing any illness.

The booster being referred to is the same as the reformulated or “bivalent” booster that was introduced in the fall of 2022. It specifically targets two virus strains, Omicron subvariants BA. 4 and BA. 5, as well as the original SARS-CoV-2 virus. Both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna offer these bivalent boosters.

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is produced using the same process as COMIRNATY and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. However, it also includes an additional component specifically targeting the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, aiming to provide protection against COVID-19 caused by this particular variant.

The risk of myocarditis and pericarditis is higher in males aged 12 to 17 years after receiving authorized or approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, especially within the first week after vaccination. This is particularly true for the COMIRNATY vaccine.

To determine if you have already received the bivalent booster, check if you received a booster dose after September 2, 2022, and if you were 12 years or older at that time. If both conditions are met, then you have received the bivalent booster.

The ingredients in COMIRNATY are messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) lipids, tromethamine, and a combination of other substances including (((4-hydroxybutyl)azanediyl)bis(hexane-6,1-diyl)bis(2-hexyldecanoate), 2 [(polyethylene glycol)-2000]-N,N-ditetradecylacetamide, 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, and cholesterol).

According to the CDC, the mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) COVID-19 vaccines are preferred over the Novavax or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The FDA granted authorization for the updated Novavax COVID-19 vaccine for use in individuals aged 12 and older under the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) on October 3, 2023.

In mid-September, the updated vaccines by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna were approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Additionally, in early October, an updated Novavax vaccine was authorized for use in individuals 12 and older. More information on the Novavax vaccine will be provided below.

To receive a booster dose, it is recommended that individuals aged 6 months and older wait at least two months after their last monovalent dose before receiving a bivalent booster dose.

The Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted, which is a monovalent vaccine, has been modified to incorporate the spike protein from the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant lineage XBB.1.5 (2023-2024 formula). The previous version of the Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted (Original monovalent) is no longer approved for use in the United States.

In January 2022, the FDA officially approved the Moderna vaccine, known as Spikevax, for individuals aged 18 and above. This approval marked an upgrade from the vaccine’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) granted in December 2020, just a week after Pfizer-BioNTech received their EUA.

There are currently three types of COVID-19 vaccines authorized or licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, and a protein subunit vaccine like Novavax.

Recent studies indicate that Moderna’s mRNA vaccine may be more effective at preventing breakthrough infections and eliciting a stronger immune response against severe COVID-19 compared to the other mRNA vaccines available in the US.

The effectiveness of COVID vaccines is highest in the first few months after receiving the shot. Therefore, health experts typically recommend boosters or updated doses to be administered three to four months after the last COVID shot.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved or licensed the Bivalent Booster Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine. However, it has been granted emergency use authorization (EUA) by the FDA for individuals 18 years and older to prevent Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved the Pfizer COVID-19 bivalent (COMIRNATY Original/Omicron BA. 4-5 COVID-19 vaccine) booster dose vaccine.

BioNTech Manufacturing GmbH has been granted approval for the Comirnaty (COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA) (2023-2024 Formula), while Pfizer Inc. has received the EUA amendment for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (2023-2024 Formula).

The CDC advises most individuals to choose the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Novavax boosters and vaccines instead of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to its rare but severe blood clotting disorder.

The most frequently reported side effects (10%) following a dose of COMIRNATY include pain at the injection site (up to 90.5%), fatigue (up to 77.5%), headache (up to 75.5%), chills (up to 49.2%), muscle pain (up to 45.5%), joint pain (up to 27.5%), fever (up to 24.3%), injection site swelling (up to 11.8%), and injection site redness (up to 10.0%).

Adults aged over 55 years who were administered the Pfizer bivalent BA. 4/5 vaccine exhibited significantly higher levels of neutralising antibodies against the BA. 4/5 Omicron subvariant (with a geometric mean ratio of 2.91, 95% confidence interval 2.45-3.44) compared to those who received the original Pfizer vaccine.

There are three types of COVID-19 vaccines: messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine, vector vaccine, and protein subunit vaccine.

The mRNA vaccine provides instructions to your cells on how to produce the S protein, which is found on the surface of the COVID-19 virus.

The vector vaccine uses a harmless virus to deliver genetic material that instructs your cells to produce the S protein.

The protein subunit vaccine contains harmless pieces of the S protein itself, which stimulate an immune response in your body.

Some of the common side effects of the vaccine include fatigue, headaches, discomfort at the injection site, and chills. There are also less common side effects such as fever, diarrhea, joint pain, vomiting, and swollen lymph nodes in the underarm on the same side as the injection.

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (2023-2024 Formula) is approved for preventing COVID-19 in individuals aged 6 months to 11 years. However, the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is no longer permitted in the United States.
