What is Accuneb?
Accuneb (albuterol sulfate) inhalation solution is a sterile, clear, colorless solution of the sulfate salt of racemic albuterol, albuterol sulfate. It is administered by nebulization.
What dosages is Accuneb available in?
Accuneb is available as an Inhalation Solution supplied as a 3 mL, clear, strerile, colorless, preservative-free, aqueous solution in two different strengths, 0.63 mg and 1.25 mg, of albuterol (equivalent to 0.75 mg of albuterol sulfate or 1.5 mg of albuterol sulfate per 3 mL) in unit-dose vials.
What is Accuneb used for?
Accuneb nebulizer solution is a beta2-adrenergic agonist which is indicated for the treatment or prevention of bronchospasm in patients 4 years of age and older with reversible obstructive airway disease. or the Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm in patients 4 years of age and older.
How does Accuneb work?
Accuneb is a bronchodilator and works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs. This prevents and treats wheezing and shortness of breath caused by breathing problems.
How do I take Accuneb?
The starting dosage for patients aged 2 to 12 years is 1.25 mg or 0.63 mg of albuterol administered 3 or 4 times daily, as required, by nebulization. More frequent administration is not recommended. When you administer Accuneb 1.25 mg or 0.63 mg, use the entire contents of one unit-dose vial (3 mL of 1.25 mg or 0.63 mg inhalation solution) by nebulization. Adjust nebulizer flow rate to deliver Accuneb over 5 to 15 minutes.
Is it safe for me to take Accuneb?
Accuneb is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use Accuneb if you have hypersensitivity to albuterol or have severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins. Accuneb should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, especially coronary insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmias, and hypertension.
