About Obgemsa
Obgemsa is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome in adults. Obgemsa contains vibegron as its active ingredient, which works by activating certain receptors in the bladder detrusor muscle. By relaxing detrusor smooth muscle, Obgemsa helps to increase bladder capacity during bladder filling.
Obgemsa is available in a tablet formulation and is used in individuals aged 18 years of age and older. Obgemsa is a prescription-only medication and may be recommended when other treatments have not been effective or are not well tolerated.
NowPatient offers Obgemsa as a treatment for urinary incontinence following an online consultation with a prescriber.

Answers to Popular Questions About Obgemsa
What is Obgemsa?
Obgemsa is a prescription medication containing vibegron 75 mg, a selective beta-3 adrenergic receptor agonist used for the symptomatic treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome in adults. It helps to reduce symptoms of urgency, increased urinary frequency, and urge urinary incontinence. Obgemsa is manufactured by Pierre Fabre and was approved by the MHRA in July 2024. It is a prescription-only medicine and is subject to additional monitoring.
How does Obgemsa work?
Obgemsa works by selectively activating beta-3 adrenergic receptors located in the detrusor muscle of the bladder wall. This activation promotes relaxation of the detrusor smooth muscle during bladder filling, increasing bladder capacity and reducing involuntary contractions that cause urgency and incontinence. Unlike antimuscarinic drugs (such as oxybutynin or solifenacin), vibegron does not block muscarinic receptors, so it has a lower incidence of anticholinergic side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, and cognitive impairment.
How effective is Obgemsa?
In the EMPOWUR phase 3 clinical trial of 1,515 patients with OAB, vibegron 75 mg significantly reduced daily micturition frequency and urge incontinence episodes compared to placebo. The benefits were observed within 2 weeks and maintained over 52 weeks of treatment. Vibegron was shown to be as effective as tolterodine (an established antimuscarinic) while offering a different side effect profile. Daily urination decreased by approximately 1.8 episodes per day compared to 1.3 with placebo.
How do I take Obgemsa?
Take one Obgemsa 75 mg tablet once daily with a glass of water, with or without food. The tablet can also be crushed and mixed with a tablespoon of soft food (such as applesauce) and taken immediately with water if you have difficulty swallowing. Take at the same time each day. Improvement in OAB symptoms is typically noticed within 2 weeks.
What are the side effects of Obgemsa?
Common side effects include urinary tract infection (6.6%), headache (5.0%), diarrhoea (3.1%), and nausea (3.0%). These are generally mild. An uncommon side effect is urinary retention — tell your doctor straight away if you are unable to empty your bladder. Unlike antimuscarinic OAB treatments, vibegron does not cause significant dry mouth, constipation, or cognitive impairment. Vibegron does not cross the blood-brain barrier, reducing the risk of central nervous system side effects.
Who is Obgemsa suitable for?
Obgemsa is suitable for adults with overactive bladder symptoms including urgency, increased urinary frequency, and urge incontinence. It may be particularly appropriate for patients who have not responded adequately to or cannot tolerate antimuscarinic medications, or where anticholinergic side effects (dry mouth, constipation, cognitive effects) are a concern. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to vibegron, and caution is advised in patients with bladder outlet obstruction. Obgemsa has not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
How can I get Obgemsa?
Obgemsa requires a prescription from your GP, urologist, or online prescriber such as NowPatient. It is available on NHS prescription and through private prescribers. NowPatient offers online consultations for overactive bladder treatment and can check current stock availability.
