Tenecteplase Key Facts
What dosages is Tenecteplase available in?
Tenecteplase is available as a 50 mg single-dose vial for reconstitution.
What is Tenecteplase used for?
Tenecteplase is used for the treatment of a severe heart attack in people who aren’t receiving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) (a procedure that opens up clogged blood vessels in the heart). Additionally, the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA) suggest that Tenecteplase can be used for the treatment of stroke caused by a blood clot in blood vessels in the brain (ischemic stroke). For stroke, Tenecteplase can be used for people who aren’t going to have a thrombectomy, which is a procedure where a healthcare provider removes a blood clot from a blood vessel.
How does Tenecteplase work?
Tenecteplase is known as a thrombolytic. It behaves just like a protein in your body called tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which helps break up blood clots. This helps to restore bloodflow in your blood vessels.
How do I take Tenecteplase?
Tenecteplase is for intravenous administration only, administered as a single bolus over 5 seconds. Individualize dosage based on patient’s weight.
