RELISTOR is the brand name for methylnaltrexone bromide and is available as an oral tablet and subcutaneous injection.
What dosages is RELISTOR available in?
RELISTOR is available as a 150 mg oral tablet and a 8 mg/0.4 mL single-dose pre-filled syringe. or 12 mg/0.6 mL single-dose pre-filled syringe or single-dose vial.
What is RELISTOR used for?
RELISTOR is an opioid antagonist and is used to treat constipation due to opioid pain medications.
How does RELISTOR work?
RELISTOR is an opioid antagonist, which means that it blocks the opioid receptors in the intestines so that you can go to the bathroom more easily.
How do I take RELISTOR?
RELISTOR is dosed as follows:
- Pill form: Take 450 mg by mouth once daily in the morning
- Injection form: The typical dose is 12 mg injected subcutaneously (under the skin) once daily. If you are taking Relistor (methylnaltrexone) for advanced illness, the dose may be lower or higher depending on your weight, and can be taken every other day as needed for constipation (but use no more than 1 dose in a 24-hour period)
Is it safe for me to take RELISTOR?
RELISTOR is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction and at increased risk of recurrent obstruction.

Common side effects of RELISTOR:
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
RELISTOR Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with RELISTOR. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Severe abdominal pain, which may be a symptom of stomach or intestine injury
- Severe diarrhea

- Other opioid antagonists: Potential for additive effect and increased risk of opioid withdrawal; avoid concomitant use
