Juluca is available as an oral tablet that contains 50 mg of dolutegravir (equivalent to 52.6 mg dolutegravir sodium) and 25 mg of rilpivirine (equivalent to 27.5 mg rilpivirine hydrochloride).
What is Juluca used for?
Juluca is a combination antiretroviral (ARV) used to treat HIV in people who are well controlled on an HIV ARV regimen already and want to switch.
How does Juluca work?
Juluca contains 2 antiretroviral (ARV) medications:
- Dolutegravir is an integrase inhibitor and prevents HIV from inserting itself in your DNA (genetic material).
- Rilpivirine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It stops an important enzyme (reverse transcriptase) and blocks the HIV DNA-making process.
How do I take Juluca?
The typical dose of Juluca is one tablet by mouth once daily with a meal.
Is it safe for me to take Juluca?
Juluca is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
- Previous hypersensitivity reaction to dolutegravir or rilpivirine
- Coadministration with dofetilide or medications that lower the level of rilpivirine in your body, such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), rifampin, or certain antiseizure medications

Common side effects of Juluca:
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Nausea
Juluca Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Juluca. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Allergic reaction
- Liver damage
- Depression or mood changes
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Juluca
The following medications may interact with Juluca:
- Other antiretroviral medications for the treatment of HIV-1 infection are not recommended
- Drugs that induce UGT1A1 or CYP3A4
- Medications that can cause Torsade de Pointes
