Ivabradine is a hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channel blocker that is used:
To lower the risk of hospitalization for worsening heart failure in adults

Ivabradine is dosed as follows:
Adults: The typical starting dose is 5 mg by mouth twice a day with food. The dose can be raised to a maximum of 7.5 mg twice a day if needed.

Children ages 6 months and older weighing more than 88 pounds (40 kg): The typical starting dose is 2.5 mg by mouth twice a day with food. The dose can be raised to a maximum of 7.5 mg twice a day if needed.

Children ages 6 months and older weighing less than 88 pounds (40 kg): The typical dose is 0.05 mg/kg of body weight by mouth twice a day with food. The maximum dose varies since it’s based on your child’s age and weight, but should never be more than 7.5 mg twice a day. The provider will help calculate the right dose for you to give to your child.

Ivabradine is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
Acute decompensated heart failure.
Clinically significant hypotension.
Sick sinus syndrome, sinoatrial block or 3rd degree AV block, unless a functioning demand pacemaker is present.
Clinically significant bradycardia.
Severe hepatic impairment.
Heart rate maintained exclusively by the pacemaker .
In combination with strong cytochrome CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Common side effects of Ivabradine:

• Slowed heart rate
• High blood pressure or a rise in blood pressure
• Abnormal heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation

Serious side effects are rare with Ivabradine. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

Irregular heart rhythm: a racing or pounding heart, chest pressure or pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting
Slow heart rate: dizziness, a tired feeling, unexplainable lack of energy; poor feeding, trouble breathing, or turning blue in children

The following medications may interact with Ivabradine:

• Avoid CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers.
• Negative chronotropes increase risk of bradycardia; monitor heart rate.
