What should you do if you use too much cinacalcet?
Call your doctor right away or seek immediate medical attention if your symptoms do not improve or they become worse after using cinacalcet. You can also call 800-222-1222 to reach the American Association of Poison Control Centers or use its online resource if you think you’ve used too much cinacalcet. But if you have severe symptoms, call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.

Cinacalcet may be used in combination with vitamin D sterols or oral phosphate binders.
How does cinacalcet work?
Cinacalcet is a calcimimetic agent that works by increasing the sensitivity of the calcium-sensing receptors on the parathyroid gland. By doing so, it helps to lower the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH), which is responsible for regulating calcium and phosphorus balance in the body. Treatment significantly improves cardiovascular survival in a large proportion of hemodialysis patients.

The dosage of cinacalcet may vary depending on the individual’s specific condition and response to treatment. Cinacalcet has a half-life of 1.5 days. It is metabolized mainly in the liver, and disposed of, from the body through renal excretion. It is important to follow the recommended dosage instructions provided by the healthcare provider.
Directions for cinacalcet use
Cinacalcet should be taken exactly as directed by the healthcare provider. The tablets are usually taken orally, with or without food. It is important to take cinacalcet consistently and at the same time each day.

- It is not known if cinacalcet passes into breast milk. Speak to your doctor before breast-feeding

Cinacalcet may interact with other medications, including antifungals such as fluconazole, itraconazole, and ketoconazole, HIV protease inhibitors such as indinavir, and oral contraceptives.
