Andexxa is a recombinant modified human factor Xa (FXa) protein used to reverse the blood-thinning effect of apixaban or rivaroxaban in emergency situations.
How does Andexxa work?
Andexxa works by acting as a decoy to bind and neutralize the anticoagulant effects of factor Xa inhibitors like rivaroxaban and apixaban. By binding to the inhibitors, Andexxa frees up your body’s own factor Xa, which can then generate thrombin and help restore normal hemostasis during bleeding emergencies.
How do I take Andexxa?
The dose of Andexxa is based on the specific FXa inhibitor, dose of FXa inhibitor, and time since the your last dose. It is given as a 400 mg or 800 mg IV bolus at a rate of 30 mg/min followed by continuous infusion 4 mg to 8 mg/min for 120 minutes.
