Zejula is a PARP inhibitor and is used for the following:
Maintenance treatment for advanced ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer that’s responded to chemotherapy
Maintenance treatment for recurrent ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer with BRCA mutations that’s responded to chemotherapy

How does Zejula work?

Zejula is a PARP inhibitor, which means it stops the PARP protein in the body from working. The PARP protein normally helps cells, including cancer cells, grow and survive by fixing damaged DNA. By blocking PARP from working, Zejula prevents cancer cells from repairing their DNA, which kills them.

How do I take Zejula?

Zejula is dosed as follows:

Maintenance treatment for advanced ovarian cancer:

  • Weighing less than 77 kg (170 lbs) OR with a platelet level of less than 150,000/mcL: The typical dose is 200 mg by mouth once a day
  • Weighing 77 kg (170 lbs) or more AND with a platelet level of 150,000/mcL or more: The typical dose is 300 mg by mouth once a day
  • Maintenance treatment for recurrent ovarian cancer with BRCA mutations: The typical dose is 300 mg by mouth once a day

Your dose might be different if you have liver problems or experience side effects from the medication.

Zejula is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you.

Zejula Common Side Effects

Common side effects of Zejula:

  • Extremely high blood pressure: headache, dizziness, nosebleeds
  • Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES): severe headaches, seizures, confusion, changes in vision

Females who are able to become pregnant should use effective birth control (contraception)during treatment with Zejula and for 6 months after the last dose of Zejula. Talk to your healthcare provider about birth control methods that may be right for you. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you become pregnant.
