What is Imlygic used for?
Imlygic is a genetically modified oncolytic viral therapy indicated for the local treatment of unresectable cutaneous, subcutaneous, and nodal lesions in patients with melanoma recurrent after initial surgery.
How does Imlygic work?
Imlygic is viral therapy that is injected directly into melanoma tumors. There, it multiplies inside the cancer cells and destroys them.
How do I take Imlygic?
The ecommended starting dose is up to a maximum of 4 mL of Imlygic at a concentration of 106 (1 million) plaque-forming units (PFU) per mL. Subsequent doses should be administered up to 4 mL of Imlygic at a concentration of 108 (100 million) PFU per mL into the lesion.
Is it safe for me to take Imlygic?
Imlygic is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you are pregnant or immunocompromised.

Common side effects of Imlygic:
- Fatigue
- Chills
- Fever
- Nausea
- Influenza-like illness
- Injection site pain
Imlygic Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Imlygic. Tell your doctor right away if you get any of the signs and symptoms of herpes
infection, including but not limited to:
- Pain, burning, tingling, or blister formation around the mouth, genitals, or any part of the body, near or far from the injection site
- Eye pain, light sensitivity, discharge from the eyes, or blurry vision
- Weakness in arms or legs
- Extreme drowsiness (feeling sleepy)
- Mental confusion

The following medications may interact with Imlygic:
- Imlygic is sensitive to acyclovir. Acyclovir or other antiherpetic viral agents may interfere with the effectiveness of Imlygic. No drug interaction studies have been conducted with Imlygic
