dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works in the kidneys to prevent the absorption of sugar and sodium (salt) back into your body.
- For Type 2 diabetes: It lowers blood sugar by causing your body to get rid of excess sugar through your urine
- For heart failure and CKD: By preventing sodium reabsorption, the heart fills with blood easier and pumps blood more easily throughout the body. This might also improve blood flow through the kidneys and lower the stress on these organs to help slow the worsening of CKD
How do I take dapagliflozin?
dapagliflozin is typically dosed as follows:
- For people with Type 2 diabetes: The typical starting dose is 5 mg by mouth once daily. Your provider might raise your dose depending on your response to the medication
