How does CORGARD work?
CORGARD is a non-selective beta blocker. This type of medication slows down your heart rate and relaxes blood vessels. As a result, this lessens the pressure on your blood vessels and eases chest pain.
How do I take CORGARD?
CORGARD is typically taken by mouth once daily up to a maximum of 240 mg to 320 mg daily, depending on the condition being treated.
Is it safe for me to take CORGARD?
CORGARD is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have bronchial asthma, sinus bradycardia and greater than first degree conduction block, cardiogenic shock, or overt cardiac failure.

Common side effects of CORGARD include:
- Very slow heart beat
- Dizziness
- Extreme tiredness
- Stomach problems, such as nausea or indigestion
CORGARD Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with CORGARD. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following. Heart failure: trouble breathing, fast weight gain, feeling very tired, chest pain, swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet Bronchospasm: tightness in the chest, trouble catching your breath, difficulty breathing, wheezing, cough, dizziness, extreme tiredness
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on CORGARD
The following medications may interact with CORGARD:
- Anesthetics, general – Exaggeration of the hypotension induced by general anesthetics
- Antidiabetic drugs (oral agents and insulin) – Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia; adjust dosage of antidiabetic drug accordingly
- Catecholamine-depleting drugs (e.g., reserpine) – Additive effect; monitor closely for evidence of hypotension and/or excessive bradycardia (e.g., vertigo, syncope, postural hypotension)
- Digitalis glycosides – Both digitalis glycosides and beta-blockers slow atrioventricular conduction and decrease heart rate. Concomitant use can increase the risk of bradycardia
