Advate is a clotting factor us to to treat or prevent bleeding in people with hemophilia A.
How does Advate work?
Advate is a clotting factor replacement for people who are missing special blood-clotting proteins called factor VIII (FVIII) due to hemophilia A. By replacing the missing clotting factor in people who naturally don’t have it, bleeding episodes can be reduced or treated.
How do I take Advate?
The typical dose ranges from 20 to 40 International Units (IU)/kg of body weight given IV every other day.
Is it safe for me to take Advate?
Advate is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in those who have life-threatening hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, to mouse or hamster protein or other constituents of the product (mannitol, trehalose, sodium chloride, histidine, Tris, calcium chloride, polysorbate 80, and/or glutathione).

- Cough
- Common cold symptoms
Advate Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Advate. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis): difficulty breathing, hives, itching, fast heartbeat, nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling in the face or tongue
- Development of antibodies against FVIII
