Gvoke is available in the following:
- 0.5 mg/0.1 mL and 1 mg/0.2 mL single-dose prefilled autoinjector (Gvoke Hypokit)
- 1 mg/0.2 mL single-dose prefilled syringe (Gvoke PFS)
- 1 mg/0.2 mL single-dose vial and syringe kit (Gvoke Kit)
- 1 mg/0.2 mL single-dose vial (Gvoke VialDx, which is used as a diagnostic aid)
What is Gvoke used for?
Gvoke is an injection used to treat dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in adults and children age 2 years and older.
How does Gvoke work?
Gvoke contains glucagon, a hormone that your body makes to raise blood sugar levels when the levels are too low.
How do I take Gvoke?
You will typically inject yourself or your child when experiencing symptoms of seriously low blood sugar. Call 911 immediately after the injection.
Adults and children ages 2 years and older (more than 99 lbs):
- The typical dose is to inject 1 mg under the skin in the lower stomach, outer thigh, or outer upper arm.
- Children ages 2 to 11 years old (less than 99 lbs): The typical dose is to inject 0.5 mg under the skin in the lower stomach, outer thigh, or outer upper arm.
- If the symptoms do not improve after 15 minutes, give a second injection while waiting for emergency services.
Is it safe for me to take Gvoke?
Gvoke is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
- Pheochromocytoma
- Insulinoma
- Prior hypersensitivity reaction to glucagon or to any of the excipients

Common side effects of Gvoke:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Swelling at injection site
- Headache
- Stomach pain
Gvoke Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Gvoke. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Severe allergic reaction: rash, trouble breathing, swelling of lips, tongue, or throat

- Beta-blockers
