What is Trimovate cream?

This triple-action formulation is used to treat eczema and dermatitis complicated by both bacterial and fungal (Candida) infection. It is particularly useful for infected eczema in moist skin areas such as skin folds, the groin, and under the breasts.
How does Trimovate work?
Trimovate combines three actions: clobetasone butyrate reduces inflammation, redness, and itching as a moderately potent steroid; oxytetracycline treats bacterial infection by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis; and nystatin kills Candida yeast by binding to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane. This makes Trimovate effective for eczema that has become complicated by mixed bacterial and fungal infection, a common occurrence in warm, moist skin areas.
How do I apply Trimovate cream?
Apply Trimovate cream thinly to the affected area up to four times daily, or as directed by your prescriber. The frequency may be reduced as the condition improves. The skin should be clean and dry before application. Treatment should be limited to 7 days without medical review. If the condition has not improved after 7 days, consult your prescriber. Avoid applying to the eyes, inside the nose, or mucous membranes.
How long should I use Trimovate for?
Initial treatment with Trimovate should be reviewed after 7 days. Due to the antibiotic component, it should not be used continuously for prolonged periods to avoid promoting antibiotic resistance. If the infection clears, your prescriber may switch you to a plain steroid or emollient for ongoing eczema management. The moderately potent steroid component is less likely to cause skin thinning than potent steroids but should still be used judiciously.
What are the side effects of Trimovate?
Common side effects include mild skin irritation, burning, or stinging at the application site. Oxytetracycline may cause a yellow staining of the skin or clothing. Allergic contact dermatitis is possible but rare. With prolonged use, the corticosteroid component can cause skin thinning, although this is less likely than with potent steroids. Nystatin is generally very well-tolerated. If irritation worsens, stop Trimovate and consult your prescriber.
Can I use Trimovate during pregnancy?
