FAQs
Answers to popular questions about Tolthen
What is Tolthen?
Tolthen is a brand name for generic tolterodine tartrate modified-release capsules (4 mg) used for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). It is bioequivalent to Detrusitol XL, Mariosea, and Neditol — all containing the same active ingredient at the same dose in the same formulation. Tolthen is a prescription-only medicine and may be dispensed when generic tolterodine MR is prescribed.
How do I take Tolthen?
Take one Tolthen 4 mg capsule once daily with water, with or without food. Swallow whole without crushing or chewing. Effects are typically noticed within 1–2 weeks, with maximum benefit at 4–8 weeks. If you experience troublesome dry mouth or constipation, discuss alternative treatments with your prescriber.
What are the side effects of Tolthen?
Side effects are identical to all tolterodine products: dry mouth, constipation, headache, abdominal pain, and dry eyes are common. Anticholinergic effects including blurred vision, drowsiness, and cognitive impairment (particularly in the elderly) may occur. Mirabegron (Betmiga) is an alternative that avoids anticholinergic side effects.
How can I get Tolthen?
Tolthen requires a prescription from your GP, urologist, or online service like NowPatient. It is available on the NHS as a generic tolterodine MR product. Your pharmacist may dispense Tolthen, Mariosea, Neditol, or another generic brand depending on availability — they are all clinically equivalent.
