About Mariosea XL

Mariosea XL contains tolterodine tartrate, an antimuscarinic, as its active ingredient. It helps to reduce bladder muscle spasms and the urge to frequently urinate, caused by these spasms. Mariosea XL is used to treat the symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as:

  • Urinary urgency (a sudden and urgent need to pee)
  • Urinary frequency (needing to pee more often than usual)
  • Urinary incontinence (wetting yourself)

Tolterodine relaxes muscles around your bladder, allowing your bladder to hold more liquid, stopping you from needing to pee as often or as urgently. It is available with a prescription as generic tolterodine or under brand names such as Detrusitol, Mariosea XL and Neditol.

NowPatient offers generic tolterodine or the branded treatments for urinary incontinence only, following an online consultation with a prescribing clinician.

FAQs

Answers to Popular Questions About Mariosea

What is Mariosea?

Mariosea is a brand name for generic tolterodine tartrate modified-release capsules (4 mg) used for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms including urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. Mariosea is bioequivalent to the branded Detrusitol XL and contains the same active ingredient at the same dose. It is a prescription-only medicine available on the NHS at a lower cost than the branded product.

How does Mariosea work?

Mariosea contains tolterodine, an antimuscarinic that blocks muscarinic receptors in the bladder wall, reducing involuntary detrusor contractions during the filling phase. The modified-release formulation provides consistent drug levels over 24 hours, requiring only once-daily dosing and generally producing fewer side effects than immediate-release tolterodine.

How do I take Mariosea?

Take one Mariosea 4 mg capsule once daily with water, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole — do not crush, chew, or open it. Take at the same time each day. Clinical improvement is usually noticed within 1–2 weeks, with full benefit at 4–8 weeks. If side effects such as dry mouth or constipation are bothersome, discuss alternatives with your prescriber.

What are the side effects of Mariosea?

Side effects are the same as for all tolterodine products: common effects include dry mouth, constipation, headache, abdominal pain, and dry eyes. Anticholinergic effects may include blurred vision, drowsiness, and dizziness. In elderly patients, caution is advised regarding potential cognitive side effects. If antimuscarinic side effects are problematic, your prescriber may switch you to mirabegron (Betmiga).

How can I get Mariosea?

Mariosea requires a prescription from your GP, urologist, or online prescriber such as NowPatient. It is available on the NHS and may be dispensed when generic tolterodine MR is prescribed. Your prescriber will assess your OAB symptoms and determine the most suitable treatment.
