FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Nicorette Cools 4mg Lozenges for Quitting Smoking

What are Nicorette Lozenges and how do they help you quit smoking?

Nicorette Lozenges are a form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) that dissolve slowly in the mouth, releasing nicotine which is absorbed through the oral lining. They are available in 2 mg and 4 mg strengths, and in various flavours including Cools (mint) and Fruit. The 2 mg strength is for smokers who smoke their first cigarette more than 30 minutes after waking, while the 4 mg strength is for those who smoke within 30 minutes of waking (indicating higher nicotine dependence). Available through the NHS Quit Smoking service.

How do I use Nicorette Lozenges?

Place one lozenge in the mouth and allow it to dissolve slowly, occasionally moving it from side to side. Do not chew or swallow the lozenge. Each lozenge takes about 20–30 minutes to dissolve. Use one lozenge every 1–2 hours when you have a craving, up to a maximum of 15 lozenges per day. Use for up to 12 weeks at full dose, then gradually reduce over the following weeks.

Can I get Nicorette Lozenges through the NHS Quit Smoking service?

Yes, both 2 mg and 4 mg Nicorette Lozenges (including Nicorette Cools and Nicorette Fruit varieties) are available through the NHS Quit Smoking service at community pharmacies. Your pharmacist will help you choose the right strength based on your level of nicotine dependence.

What are the side effects of Nicorette Lozenges?

Common side effects include throat irritation, hiccups, nausea, mouth soreness, and a tingling sensation in the mouth. Heartburn or indigestion may occur. These are generally mild and settle with continued use. Sucking the lozenge too quickly or swallowing nicotine-containing saliva can increase nausea — allow it to dissolve slowly.

What is the difference between the 2 mg and 4 mg lozenges?

The strength depends on your level of nicotine dependence. If you smoke your first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking, use the 4 mg lozenges (higher dependence). If you smoke your first cigarette more than 30 minutes after waking, the 2 mg lozenges are usually sufficient. Your pharmacist can help determine the right strength for you.

  • NowPatient is worth your time!

I do not leave reviews, due to time and a rare condition I have. I initially left a message, my call was returned within 2 hours or less. NowPatient offers 4 discount programs. I worked with Jay, he was genuine and wanted to help me all while giving me amazing customer service. Even though I didn't qualify, he gave me some suggestions and tips while encouraging me to follow up with the manufacturer along with other things I could do. This is the real deal, not a scam, and not a waste of your time. Amazing!! Thank you, Jay!

  • Excellent service

Cannot speak highly enough of the service and assistance I have received from NowPatient. I was dealing with a very kind and helpful clinician who couldn't do enough to assist. He was knowledgeable about the medication being prescribed and the consultation was thorough. There were some hurdles to overcome to receive the medication overseas and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.
