How do I ease measles symptoms?

Resting and staying hydrated are important for managing measles symptoms. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, to avoid dehydration. Young children must stay hydrated during the illness.

Over-the-counter medications can help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with measles. Paracetamol or ibuprofen can be used to reduce fever and relieve discomfort. However, aspirin should not be given to children under 16 years of age.

To ease discomfort, use cotton wool soaked in warm water to gently remove any crusts around the eyes. This can help relieve soreness and prevent the crusts from sticking.

How do I prevent the spreading of measles?

Frequent handwashing with soap and warm water is essential in preventing the spread of measles. Encourage proper hand hygiene in yourself and your children to reduce the risk of transmission.

Practice good respiratory etiquette by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissues immediately and wash your hands afterwards.

If you or your child has measles, it is important to avoid close contact with others, particularly individuals who are unvaccinated, pregnant, or have weakened immune systems. Stay home from school, work, or other public places until at least four days after the rash first appears.

Your health shouldn’t wait.
