FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About Nicorette Microtab 2mg Sublingual Tablets for Quitting Smoking
What is the Nicorette Microtab and how does it work?
Nicorette Microtab is a small sublingual (under-the-tongue) tablet containing 2 mg of nicotine. You place it under the tongue where it dissolves over about 30 minutes, releasing nicotine that is absorbed through the oral mucosa. The Microtab is very discreet — it is small and dissolves without chewing, making it suitable for situations where chewing gum or using an inhalator would be inconvenient. Available through the NHS Quit Smoking service.
How do I use Nicorette Microtab?
Place one tablet under the tongue and allow it to dissolve — do not chew or swallow. The tablet takes approximately 30 minutes to dissolve. Use 1–2 tablets per hour as needed, starting with 1 tablet per hour for smokers of fewer than 20 cigarettes daily, or 2 tablets per hour for heavier smokers. Maximum 40 tablets per day. Use for up to 12 weeks, then gradually reduce. Do not eat or drink while the tablet is dissolving.
Can I get Nicorette Microtab through the NHS?
Yes, Nicorette Microtab 2 mg sublingual tablets are available through the NHS Quit Smoking service at community pharmacies.
What are the side effects of Nicorette Microtab?
Common side effects include tingling or burning sensation under the tongue, hiccups, sore throat, mouth irritation, and nausea. These are generally mild and settle with continued use. The sublingual route avoids many of the jaw and chewing-related side effects of nicotine gum.
